Why Rural Rollover Crashes Can Cause Severe Injuries
Rural rollover crashes can lead to serious injuries because vehicles may leave the roadway before flipping. Trees, ditches, uneven ground, and narrow shoulders can make the final impact more dangerous.
Ejection is one of the most serious risks in a rollover. A person may be thrown through a window or door if the force of the crash is strong enough. It is important to encourage seat belt use and be aware of the vehicle speed, since it can cause really serious injuries.
Entrapment can also make these crashes harder to manage. When a vehicle lands in a wooded area or away from the road, reaching injured people may take more time. Rescue crews may need added space and tools to remove someone safely.
