Why High-Speed Travel Increases Crash Severity on Highways
Driving at high speeds reduces the amount of time a driver has to react to sudden changes on the road. On highways, where traffic moves quickly, even a small mistake can lead to a serious crash. Vehicles require more distance to slow or stop, increasing the risk of collisions.
Motorcycles are especially vulnerable in these situations. Without the protective frame of a car, riders face greater exposure during impact. High speeds can also make it harder to maintain control, particularly when changing lanes or approaching other vehicles.
Road conditions, traffic flow, and visibility can all influence how dangerous speeding becomes. Even in clear weather, unexpected obstacles or sudden braking by other drivers can quickly lead to a chain reaction.
