Odessa, TX (January 13, 2026) – A tragic three-vehicle collision in Odessa early Monday morning claimed the life of a 27-year-old man and left two others injured, one of them seriously.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened around 6:00 a.m. when a 36-year-old Odessa man operating a tractor-trailer was traveling south on FM 866. As he attempted to turn east onto West University Blvd, his truck collided with a GMC Sierra driven by Jorge Zapata. The force of the impact caused the Sierra to then strike a Ford F-150 that was stopped at the intersection.
Zapata, who was behind the wheel of the Sierra, died at the scene as a result of the crash. His passenger, a 27-year-old Odessa resident, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Odessa Medical Center Hospital for emergency care.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the incident. The 40-year-old driver of the Ford pickup sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment on site.
Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the fatal collision. No charges or citations have been announced at this time.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Jorge Zapata and wish strength and healing to those recovering from this devastating event.
