Why Southbound Interstate Closures Often Cause Heavy Delays
When a major crash blocks lanes on a busy interstate, traffic can quickly back up for several miles. Southbound I-35 is a heavily traveled route in the Olathe area, especially during afternoon hours when many drivers are heading home from work or school.
In fatal crashes, emergency crews often remain on scene for an extended period while damaged vehicles are removed and the roadway is cleared. Traffic may also be redirected onto nearby roads, which can create additional congestion in surrounding neighborhoods and intersections.
Road conditions, vehicle speed, and traffic volume are commonly reviewed after serious interstate accidents. Investigators may also examine roadway evidence and witness statements to help determine how the crash occurred.
