What Investigators Review in Late-Night Pedestrian Crashes
Pedestrian crashes occurring late at night are often reviewed with special attention to lighting conditions, visibility, and roadway design. Investigators typically examine how visible the pedestrian and vehicle were at the time of impact.
Speed, reaction time, and roadway markings such as crosswalks or intersections are also evaluated. In many cases, limited lighting can make it more difficult for both drivers and pedestrians to detect each other in time to avoid a collision.
Investigators also rely on physical evidence and witness statements to reconstruct the events leading up to the crash. These findings help determine how the incident occurred and whether any traffic violations were involved.
