What Factors Are Commonly Examined After a Head-On Collision?
Head-on crashes are often among the most serious types of roadway collisions because both vehicles may be traveling toward each other at significant speeds. After these wrecks, investigators usually review lane positioning, driver actions, roadway markings, and weather conditions to piece together how the vehicles came into contact.
Vehicle damage can also provide useful details about speed, direction, and point of contact. In some cases, distraction, fatigue, impaired driving, or attempts to avoid roadway hazards may become part of the review process. Medical findings and witness statements may also help clarify the sequence of events.
Road design may also receive attention, especially on rural roads or two-lane highways where limited visibility or narrow shoulders can increase the risk of a vehicle crossing the center line.
