Why Single-Vehicle Rollover Emergencies Can Be Severe
Single-vehicle rollover emergencies can cause serious harm because occupants may be thrown against the inside of the vehicle or become trapped. The risk can increase when a vehicle leaves its lane, hits a fixed object, or overturns near a ramp or barrier. Guardrails are designed to reduce the danger of leaving the roadway, but a hard strike can still cause major damage.
Medical care after a rollover may focus on head, neck, back, chest, and limb trauma. Some injuries are visible right away, while others may take time to confirm. Road crews may also need to inspect damaged safety barriers before lanes can reopen. In these cases, traffic closures are often used to protect drivers until repairs or safety checks are completed.
