Fentress Co., TN (August 31, 2026) – One person was killed and three others were injured Saturday afternoon, August 29, in a five-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 127 near Old Martha Washington Road in Fentress County. The collision happened at approximately 3:00 p.m.

According to a preliminary Tennessee Highway Patrol report, a Chevrolet was traveling north on U.S. Highway 127 when the driver failed to maintain the lane and struck four motorcycles.

One motorcyclist died in the crash. Three other motorcycle riders were injured, though the available report did not specify the severity of their injuries or whether they were hospitalized.

THP said charges against the Chevrolet driver were pending the outcome of the investigation. The crash also caused traffic delays in the area for several hours.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the motorcyclist who died, and we hope the three injured riders recover fully.

The Dangers of Secondary Impacts for Motorcycle Riders

Motorcyclists have little physical protection compared with occupants of enclosed vehicles, leaving riders more exposed when several vehicles become involved in the same crash.

A motorcycle rider may experience an initial impact and then be thrown into the roadway or into another vehicle, creating additional sources of injury.

Travel speed, impact angle, rider position, protective gear, and the sequence of collisions can all affect injury severity. When several motorcycles are involved, emergency crews may also need to assess and treat multiple injured riders at the same time.
