What Factors Can Lead to Truck Crashes at Intersections?
Truck-related crashes at intersections can happen for several reasons, especially in areas with regular passenger vehicle traffic. Large commercial vehicles require more time to stop and need wider turning space than smaller cars. When traffic signals, turning movements, or sudden stops are involved, the risk of a serious roadway collision can increase.
Road congestion may also contribute to these crashes. Vehicles entering intersections at the wrong time or failing to judge a truck’s speed and stopping distance can create dangerous conditions. Weather, visibility, and blocked sightlines sometimes become factors as well. In many cases, investigators later review roadway markings, traffic flow patterns, and vehicle positioning to better understand how the crash unfolded.
