Orange County, FL (April 19, 2026) – One person was killed and several others were seriously hurt in an early morning crash Sunday, April 19, on Interstate 4 near the Walt Disney World area.
The crash happened around 3:30 a.m. when a westbound SUV experienced a tire failure, causing the vehicle to overturn multiple times. During the crash, a 17-year-old passenger was ejected and landed in the eastbound lanes of the highway.
A separate vehicle traveling eastbound then struck the teen. The passenger was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the SUV and six additional passengers were taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
The driver and passenger of the second vehicle remained at the scene and were not reported hurt. It has not been confirmed whether those in the SUV were wearing seat belts.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.
Why Tire Failures on Highways Can Lead to Serious Crashes
Tire failures at highway speeds can quickly lead to loss of control. When a tire blows out, it can affect the balance of the vehicle, making it harder for the driver to steer or maintain stability. This can result in rollovers, especially in larger vehicles like SUVs.
Ejections are a major risk in rollover crashes. When occupants are not properly restrained, they may be thrown from the vehicle, increasing the chance of severe injury. High-speed roadways add to this danger due to surrounding traffic.
Secondary impacts can also occur, as other drivers may not have enough time to react. A person or debris in the roadway can create sudden hazards, leading to additional collisions in already dangerous conditions.
