What Investigators Review in Late-Night Pedestrian Crashes
When pedestrian crashes occur at night, investigators often examine visibility conditions, roadway lighting, and the surrounding environment. These factors can influence how clearly a pedestrian is visible to approaching drivers.
Road position and movement patterns are also reviewed to determine where the pedestrian entered the travel lane. Tire marks, debris fields, and vehicle positioning may help reconstruct how the collision occurred.
Speed, driver attention, and roadway design are commonly considered as part of the investigation. In some cases, witness statements or nearby camera footage provide additional context for understanding the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
