Petaluma, CA (January 24, 2026) – A man in his 60s tragically lost his life in a multi-vehicle accident early Friday morning on Adobe Rd near Frates Rd, prompting an extended roadway closure and a full investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:50 a.m. on January 23, along a rural stretch of State Highway 116 between Frates and Stage Gulch roads, just outside Petaluma.
Emergency responders, including paramedics and CHP officers, arrived quickly after reports of a serious crash involving multiple vehicles. Medics worked urgently to assist the injured and assess the scene. Sadly, the driver of a gray Honda CR-V, identified only as a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.
According to CHP’s preliminary findings, the Honda CR-V was traveling eastbound on Adobe Rd when it crossed over the double yellow lines. It first sideswiped a westbound white Chevrolet Silverado, then collided head-on with a black Toyota Camry, also heading westbound. The driver of the Camry sustained major, non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital for further care. The Silverado’s driver suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.
The collision resulted in both directions of Adobe Rd being closed for over four hours while crews worked to investigate the scene and remove the damaged vehicles. CHP confirmed the roadway was fully reopened by 10:16 a.m.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, with authorities reviewing contributing factors and gathering statements from those involved. No arrests or citations have been reported.
Our hearts go out to the victim’s loved ones, as well as to all others affected by this devastating incident.
