East Ridge, TN (April 14, 2026) – An East Ridge police officer and another driver were injured early Tuesday morning after a crash at Ringgold Rd and McBrien Rd.
The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, when an officer observed a driver in a white Ford Explorer failing to maintain their lane while traveling southbound on McBrien Rd. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver accelerated and ran a red light at the intersection.
During the sequence, the suspect vehicle collided with a patrol vehicle that was responding to an unrelated call. The impact caused the patrol car to roll, leaving the officer trapped inside.
Emergency units responded and worked to free the officer from the wreckage. The driver of the Explorer was ejected during the crash. Both the officer and the driver were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials said the officer is expected to recover.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
How High-Speed Flight From Traffic Stops Can Lead to Serious Crashes
When drivers attempt to flee from a traffic stop, the risk of a crash increases significantly. Sudden acceleration, running red lights, and unpredictable movements can create dangerous situations for others on the road.
Intersections are especially hazardous during these events. Vehicles entering from different directions may not have time to react, increasing the likelihood of severe collisions.
Crashes involving ejection or vehicle rollover often result in more serious injuries. Emergency response may require extrication efforts and rapid transport to a hospital, depending on the severity of the impact.
