What Happens When a Vehicle Crosses the Center Line on a Highway?
When a vehicle crosses the center line on a two-lane highway, it can quickly lead to a head-on crash, which is often severe due to the force of impact. These types of incidents may occur for several reasons, including driver fatigue, distraction, or loss of control.
Road design and traffic flow also affect how dangerous these situations can become. On undivided highways like Route 422, opposing traffic moves at similar speeds, increasing the risk of serious harm when a vehicle drifts out of its lane.
After such crashes, vehicle positions, skid marks, and road conditions are often reviewed to piece together what happened. These details can help clarify how and why a vehicle may have crossed into oncoming traffic.
