How DUI-Related Crashes Impact Motorcyclists
Crashes involving impaired drivers can pose a serious risk to motorcyclists. Motorcycles are smaller and less visible than most passenger vehicles, which can make it harder for other drivers to see them at intersections.
Alcohol or drug impairment may reduce reaction time and affect judgment. This can increase the chance of turning in front of an oncoming motorcycle or misjudging distance and speed.
Motorcyclists also have less physical protection compared to those inside enclosed vehicles. As a result, even a single collision at an intersection can lead to severe or fatal injuries. Road design, visibility, and driver awareness all influence how these crashes occur.
