Why Crashes Involving Big Rigs Can Disrupt Freeway Traffic
Collisions involving large commercial trucks often lead to major traffic delays. Big rigs are heavier and longer than most passenger vehicles, which can block multiple lanes when a crash occurs.
Early morning crashes may also affect commuters traveling to work. Lane closures and traffic alerts are common while vehicles are cleared and the roadway is inspected.
The size and weight of big rigs can also increase the force of impact during a collision. Investigators typically review vehicle positioning, roadway conditions, and traffic flow to better understand how a freeway crash unfolded.
