Fresno, CA (February 28, 2026) – One person was arrested on Friday afternoon, February 27, after a high-speed chase ended in a crash in east central Fresno.
The incident began shortly before 4 p.m. when a speeding driver refused to pull over on Highway 180. Authorities said the driver of a white Honda Accord was traveling about 120 miles per hour.
Officers briefly lost sight of the vehicle before it was located again, traveling southbound on Jackson Avenue. Investigators said the driver ran a stop sign at Belmont Avenue and struck a Toyota Sequoia.
The Sequoia driver complained of pain but otherwise appeared to be okay. The Honda driver was trapped inside his vehicle and had to be freed by emergency units. He was not injured and was later arrested on suspicion of felony evading and causing the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
We are thinking of those affected as they recover.
How High-Speed Chases Can Lead to Intersection Crashes
Crashes tied to police pursuits often happen at intersections. Drivers who are fleeing may ignore traffic signals or stop signs, raising the risk of a collision with other vehicles.
High speeds also reduce reaction time for both the fleeing driver and others on the road. When a vehicle enters a cross street without stopping, the impact can strike the side of another car, which may offer less protection than a front-end crash.
In many cases, roadway cameras and witness accounts help piece together how the crash unfolded. Reviewing speed, traffic control devices, and vehicle damage patterns can provide insight into how a pursuit-related collision occurred.
