Why Crosswalk Accidents Can Be Dangerous for Mobility Scooter Users
Intersections such as South State Street and West 1st Street are risky due to turning movements and crossing traffic. When vehicles approach crosswalks, drivers and people crossing the street must rely on visibility and timing to move safely through the area.
Mobility scooters travel at slower speeds than vehicles and may take longer to cross the roadway. Drivers approaching the intersection may have limited time to react if they do not notice someone crossing.
Marked crosswalks help guide pedestrian movement, but traffic flow, lighting conditions, and driver attention can affect how safely vehicles and pedestrians share the intersection.
