How Stop-Sign Crashes Can Lead to Serious Injuries
Crashes at stop-controlled intersections can be severe because vehicles may enter the crossing path at different speeds. A driver who fails to stop can leave another driver with little time to react. The side or front impact can cause major damage, especially when larger trucks are involved.
In rural areas, intersections may have wide approaches and faster-moving traffic. Even with signs in place, distance, visibility, and driver attention affect how quickly a hazard is noticed.
Medical care after this type of crash often depends on the force of impact and the position of each person in the vehicles. Air medical flights may be used when a patient needs faster access to a larger hospital or trauma care.
