Why Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accidents Can Be Especially Serious
Crashes involving bicyclists often result in severe or fatal injuries because riders have little protection during an impact with a vehicle. Early morning conditions may also reduce visibility, making it harder for drivers and cyclists to see each other on the roadway.
Hit-and-run bicycle accidents can become more difficult to investigate when the involved driver leaves before officers arrive. Investigators rely on roadway evidence, surveillance footage, witness accounts, and damaged vehicle parts left behind at the scene. Roads with higher traffic speeds or limited bike infrastructure may increase the danger for cyclists traveling during low-light hours. In many cases, investigators review lighting conditions and traffic patterns to better comprehend how the collision occurred.
