Why Turning Crashes at Highway Intersections Can Cause Injuries
Turning crashes at highway intersections can lead to serious injuries because vehicles may meet at sharp angles. A turning vehicle and a through vehicle can collide with enough force to damage both cars heavily.
Traffic signals, lane position, and the timing of turns are often key details after these crashes. Evening conditions may also affect visibility, especially when headlights, traffic lights, and nearby vehicles are all present.
Seat belts can help reduce the risk of severe harm, but injuries can still happen. After a crash, medical crews may check for head, neck, chest, and back injuries, even when a person appears alert at the scene.
