Bouckville, NY (May 9, 2026) – Two adults and four children were injured on Thursday morning after a pickup truck rear-ended a school bus in Madison County, according to New York State Police.
Authorities said the crash occurred around 7:20 a.m. near 6855 Route 20 in Bouckville. Emergency dispatchers sent multiple ambulances to the scene following reports of a serious collision involving a school bus.
Investigators said a 2007 Dodge Ram pickup truck crashed into the rear of a Madison Central School District bus that had reportedly stopped to pick up a student. A video shared on social media appeared to show the pickup traveling at a high speed before colliding with the bus.
Officials stated that 23 students were aboard the school bus at the time of the crash. The pickup truck driver sustained injuries and was transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica for treatment. Two children riding inside the pickup were also taken to the hospital.
Authorities said the pickup driver became trapped inside the vehicle after the truck became wedged underneath the rear of the bus, requiring emergency responders to assist with extrication efforts.
The school bus driver was transported to Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton for evaluation. Two students aboard the bus also suffered injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
State Police said none of the reported injuries appeared to be life-threatening. Preliminary findings indicate the pickup truck driver may have been following the school bus too closely before the collision occurred. The investigation remains ongoing, and no citations have been issued as of Thursday afternoon.
