Why Motorcycle Loss-of-Control Crashes Can Become More Dangerous on Highways
Motorcycles require balance and precise control, especially when traveling at highway speeds. If a rider loses control, the motorcycle can overturn or slide across the roadway.
When a motorcycle falls on a busy highway, other vehicles may have limited time to react. Drivers following behind may not be able to slow down or change lanes quickly enough to avoid the rider.
Highway traffic also moves faster than local road traffic. This reduces the time drivers have to identify hazards and respond safely.
Lane positioning, road surface conditions, and sudden steering movements can all affect motorcycle stability. When a motorcycle overturns in active traffic lanes, the risk of additional impacts increases significantly.
