What Causes Multi-Vehicle Crashes at Rural Intersections?
Crashes involving several vehicles often occur at intersections where traffic moves at different speeds or in different directions. Drivers may misjudge gaps in traffic or fail to yield, leading to chain-reaction collisions.
Rural intersections can add more risk due to limited visibility, fewer traffic signals, and higher travel speeds. Vehicles entering from side roads may not always have a clear view of oncoming traffic, increasing the risk of a collision.
When multiple vehicles are involved, the force of one collision can push cars into others nearby. This can lead to blocked roadways and vehicles leaving the pavement, especially when drivers try to avoid the initial crash.
