Serious Risks in Tractor-Trailer Highway Crashes
Crashes involving tractor-trailers can cause severe damage because of the size and weight of commercial trucks. When smaller vehicles are involved, the impact can be especially dangerous. Fire damage may also create added hazards near the crash scene.
Highway crashes can quickly block several lanes, especially when large trucks are involved. Debris, damaged vehicles, and stopped traffic may affect drivers approaching the area. Long closures may be needed while crews remove vehicles and check the roadway.
These crashes may require a review of vehicle positions, impact points, and traffic flow before the collision. Roadway layout, lane changes, and braking marks can also provide useful context. In serious cases, medical and scene evidence may help explain the full severity of the crash.
