Monroe County, WI (July 7, 2026) – A woman suffered serious injuries after a crash involving a passenger car and a semi-truck on State Highway 16 and the Interstate 90 Exit 28 off-ramp in Monroe County. Deputies were dispatched to the scene at approximately 3:02 p.m. on Sunday, July 5.
According to investigators, the car had stopped at the stop sign on the off-ramp before pulling into the path of a westbound semi traveling along State Highway 16. The semi driver attempted to avoid the collision, but the car struck the side of the trailer. The trailer then partially traveled over the car, pushing it into the north ditch, where the vehicle caught fire with the driver still inside.
Officials said the semi driver pulled the woman from the burning vehicle before emergency units arrived. Crews extinguished the fully involved car fire while providing aid at the scene. The woman was taken to a hospital in La Crosse with serious injuries.
