How Suspected DUI Crashes at Intersections Are Investigated
Crashes involving suspected impaired driving are typically reviewed closely by investigators due to the potential impact of alcohol or drugs on reaction time and decision-making. Field observations, vehicle movement patterns, and physical evidence at the scene can all contribute to the investigation.
Intersections are common locations for these types of crashes because drivers may misjudge speed, fail to yield, or lose control while navigating cross traffic. Impact with fixed objects like utility poles can also help reconstruct vehicle direction and force.
Medical evaluations of injured individuals are often used alongside roadway evidence to document the severity of the crash. Investigators may later combine these findings with witness statements and other data to determine the sequence of events.
