Southington, CT (March 18, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger car was reported on Tuesday evening, March 17, along Interstate 84 eastbound in Southington.
Emergency units were dispatched to the area between Exits 32 and 33 shortly after 7:00 p.m. Initial reports indicated a rollover crash after a vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer and left the roadway. A trooper traveling in the area came upon the scene and requested additional assistance for injuries and traffic safety.
Responders arrived to find the passenger vehicle, identified as a BMW, upright after rolling into a wooded area off the highway. The tractor-trailer came to a stop further ahead, creating a split crash scene across the roadway. The driver of the BMW, who was the only occupant, was evaluated at the scene and later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they are provided.
We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
How Tractor-Trailer Crashes on Highways Can Lead to Complex Scenes
Crashes involving tractor-trailers often create wide impact areas, especially on highways where vehicles travel at higher speeds. When a smaller vehicle collides with a large truck, it may be pushed off the road or spin out, increasing the chance of a rollover.
These incidents can also result in separate impact points, particularly if one vehicle continues moving after the initial collision. This can make cleanup and traffic control more challenging for crews working at the scene.
Rollover crashes add another layer of risk, as vehicles may come to rest in wooded areas or along embankments. Emergency responders may need extra time to reach the vehicle and safely assist those inside.
