Spring Hill, FL (May 19, 2026) – A four-vehicle wreck along U.S. Highway 19 north of Little Rd left one man dead and two women with serious harm Monday morning, May 18, in Pasco County.
According to investigators, the chain-reaction crash happened shortly before 9:30 a.m. when a Toyota sedan traveling north struck the rear of a Mazda operated by 39-year-old Jared Andrew Steele of Spring Hill. Troopers said the Toyota then sideswiped a Ford SUV driven by 22-year-old Dylana Joli Andros, who had 24-year-old Alexis Noel Witt riding with her.
The Ford crossed the median and entered the southbound lanes, where it hit a Hyundai SUV driven by 41-year-old Jonathan M. Quiles of Spring Hill head-on. Quiles was taken to HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital with life-threatening harm and later died there. Witt was left paralyzed from the waist down, while Andros was treated for two broken legs.
Investigators said Gregorio Santoni Reyes, the driver of the Toyota, briefly stopped before leaving the roadway without helping those involved or exchanging information. Deputies later located him in a Walgreens parking lot on Cortez Blvd. near Spring Hill. Troopers reported signs of impairment, and medical testing later showed a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit.
Reyes now faces multiple felony charges tied to DUI, leaving the roadway, and making threats at a hospital following his arrest. Detectives are still working to determine all factors that led to the fatal chain of impacts. We extend heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends mourning their loss while wishing the injured a steady recovery.
What Factors Are Commonly Examined After a Multi-Vehicle Highway Wreck?
After a serious multi-vehicle roadway crash, investigators often review how traffic flow, vehicle speed, and driver actions contributed to the sequence of impacts. Highway collisions involving several vehicles can become more complex because one strike may force other cars into different lanes or opposing traffic.
Road conditions, visibility, and lane position are also commonly reviewed. Investigators may study surveillance footage, vehicle damage, skid marks, and witness statements to better understand how the chain of impacts unfolded. In crashes involving suspected impairment, toxicology results and driver behavior before the roadway crash may become part of the review process.
Medical findings can also help explain the severity of harm suffered by those involved. In many highway cases, the final timeline takes time to complete because several vehicles and multiple people may be connected to the same series of impacts.
