What Typically Determines Fault at a Rural Intersection Crash in Minnesota
Rural intersections, where two county roads meet without traffic lights, rely entirely on signage and right-of-way rules to manage traffic flow. In Minnesota, vehicles approaching a stop or yield sign must give way to cross traffic. When a crash happens at one of these intersections, investigators typically look at which driver had the right of way, whether any signs were present and visible, vehicle speed, and the point of impact on each vehicle. Airbag deployment data can also help establish how fast each vehicle was moving at the moment of the collision. Dry road conditions generally rule out weather as a contributing factor, which tends to focus the review more closely on driver behavior and traffic control at the crossing.
