Canandaigua, NY (July 2, 2026) – A 14-year-old boy was seriously injured on Tuesday, June 30, after an e-scooter crash involving a sedan on Johnson Road in Canandaigua.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office said the teenager was riding an e-scooter west on Johnson Road when the crash occurred. A sedan was also traveling west on the same road.

Deputies said the sedan moved into the opposite lane as the driver tried to avoid a collision. The car’s side mirror then struck the teenager and the e-scooter.

The boy was ejected from the scooter and suffered head trauma. His injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening, and he was brought to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The sedan driver was not injured. The collision remains under review as officials confirm the full sequence.

We hope the injured teenager receives the care needed and recovers fully.

E-Scooter Crashes Leave Young Riders Vulnerable

E-scooter crashes can cause serious injuries because riders have limited protection around larger vehicles. Even a low-contact collision may knock a rider down or throw them from the scooter.

Head injuries are a major concern after scooter accidents. A rider may need emergency care for trauma, concussion symptoms, facial injuries, broken bones, or other harm that is not always clear right away.

Crashes on public roads may involve several factors, including vehicle movement, lane position, speed, driver reaction, and nearby driveways. Investigators usually review those details to understand how the contact occurred and whether roadway conditions affected the crash.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
