Toledo, OH (May 4, 2026) – Three people were seriously hurt in a crash Sunday evening, May 4, at the intersection of Anthony Wayne Trail and Glendale. The collision happened around 5 p.m. when one vehicle entered the intersection against a red light.
Police say a 34-year-old man was driving southbound on Anthony Wayne Trail when he struck another vehicle. That second vehicle was turning from Glendale onto the northbound Anthony Wayne Trail at the time of the crash.
The first driver and his 4-year-old passenger were both taken to the hospital. Their current conditions have not been confirmed.
The second vehicle was driven by a 35-year-old woman. She and two young passengers, ages 12 and 15, were also taken to the hospital. The 12-year-old suffered serious injuries, while the 15-year-old was reported to have life-threatening injuries. Alcohol or drugs are suspected to have contributed to the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
What Happens When a Driver Runs a Red Light at an Intersection?
Crashes at intersections often occur when one driver fails to stop at a traffic signal. Ohio records thousands of red-light-related crashes each year, and intersection collisions consistently rank among the most deadly crash types in the state. When a vehicle enters against a red light, it can strike cars that are moving through the intersection legally. These collisions are often severe because they happen at speed and from unexpected angles.
In many cases, multiple people may be affected, including passengers of different ages. Injuries can vary widely depending on how the vehicles collide and where occupants are seated. Younger passengers may be more vulnerable due to their size and seating position, and Ohio data reflect that children involved in angle crashes face a higher risk of serious injury compared to other collision types.
Road conditions, visibility, and traffic flow also influence how these crashes unfold. Damage to the vehicles and their final positions can help piece together how the impact occurred. Traffic signal timing and driver behavior are also commonly reviewed in these situations, and Ohio authorities have increasingly turned to intersection cameras and signal data to reconstruct the sequence of events in serious crashes.
