Tucson, AZ (January 4, 2026) – A devastating multi-vehicle crash on Friday night on the 5300 block of East Golf Links Road in Tucson has claimed the life of a 4-year-old boy and left multiple others with serious injuries. The collision occurred on January 2 and involved three vehicles, according to Tucson Police.
Authorities say a 27-year-old woman driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound when her vehicle suddenly veered across three lanes, crossed the median, and entered westbound traffic. The Corolla collided with a Toyota Camry, and a westbound Volkswagen Jetta was unable to avoid the impact.
The Corolla driver and her four children, including twin 8-year-old boys, a 2-year-old boy, and the 4-year-old boy who later died, were all transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The Camry’s driver and passenger sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the Jetta driver was treated for minor injuries.
Investigators report that many or all occupants of the Corolla were not properly restrained with seatbelts or child safety seats at the time of the crash. Authorities also confirmed that the Corolla’s driver was impaired, while the drivers of the other vehicles showed no signs of intoxication.
The incident remains under investigation, but impairment and speed by the Corolla driver have been cited as the primary contributing factors.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family mourning this heartbreaking loss. We also extend our support to those recovering from this traumatic event.
Child Passenger Safety and DUI Concerns in Arizona
Crashes involving young children are among the most painful reminders of the critical importance of safe driving and proper restraint use. In Arizona, state law requires children under five to be secured in appropriate car seats, and those under eight to be in booster seats unless they are over 4’9″ tall.
The tragedy on Golf Links Rd highlights the consequences of impaired driving and the added dangers when children are not buckled in properly. DUI-related crashes often carry the most severe outcomes, especially when they involve vulnerable passengers.
This incident underscores the urgent need for increased awareness around child passenger safety and the irreversible harm caused by driving under the influence. Public safety officials encourage all drivers to ensure children are properly restrained and to never operate a vehicle while impaired.
