Why Highway Intersections Can Present Challenges for Large Trucks
Intersections where local roads meet major highways can create complex traffic situations, especially when large commercial vehicles are involved. Trucks hauling trailers require more space and time to cross or enter high-speed roadways than smaller passenger vehicles.
Drivers approaching these highway intersections may have limited time to react if a vehicle crosses their path. Factors such as speed, visibility, traffic volume, and roadway design can all influence the likelihood of a collision.
When a passenger vehicle strikes the side of a trailer, investigators often examine sightlines, vehicle positions, and timing to determine how the vehicles came into contact. The size difference between commercial trucks and passenger cars can also affect injury severity, even when occupants are properly restrained with seatbelts.
