What Factors Can Contribute to Motorcycle Crashes on Local Roads?
Motorcycle crashes on local streets can happen for many reasons, often involving visibility and road conditions. Riders are smaller and harder to see, especially at intersections or on busy roads with frequent turns. Drivers may fail to notice a motorcycle when changing lanes or pulling into traffic.
Road surface issues can also affect motorcycles more than larger vehicles. Potholes, loose gravel, or uneven pavement can cause a rider to lose control quickly. Speed and sudden braking may increase the risk of a serious outcome.
Protective gear, including helmets, may help reduce the severity of injuries, but crashes involving motorcycles still tend to result in more serious harm due to the lack of physical protection.
