Veazie, ME (March 25, 2026) – Two people were hurt after being struck in a crash on Monday, March 24, in Veazie. The incident happened around 7:00 p.m. along Interstate 95.
According to reports, an 18-year-old woman from Bangor lost control of her vehicle due to snowy road conditions and ended up in the median. The Medford man stopped to assist her when another vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old woman from Old Town, also lost control.
That second vehicle struck both the man and the Bangor woman, sending them down an embankment. Authorities believe the man tried to shield the woman during the impact. The Bangor woman was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, while the Medford man suffered serious injuries and remains in critical condition.
No further details about additional injuries have been released. The crash remains under investigation.
We extend our thoughts to those injured and wish them a full recovery.
What Risks Are Present When Assisting at Highway Crash Scenes?
Transitional zones along highways like Interstate 95 can pose hazards, especially during poor weather. In Veazie, responders and drivers must often deal with slippery roads and limited visibility during winter incidents.
Stopping to help at a crash scene can place people at risk if traffic continues moving nearby. Vehicles approaching at highway speeds may have reduced control on snow or ice, increasing the chance of secondary crashes.
Road conditions, driver reaction time, and visibility all influence safety in these situations. Extra caution and awareness are needed when vehicles stop along busy interstates, particularly during winter weather.
