What Happens When a Road Is Closed After a Serious Crash?
When a major crash occurs, road closures are often implemented to keep drivers safe and allow emergency crews to work. These closures can last from a few minutes to several hours, depending on how difficult the situation is and how much cleanup is required.
During this time, detours are usually set up to guide traffic around the affected area. Drivers may notice increased congestion on nearby streets as vehicles are redirected. This can also impact response times for those traveling through the area.
In addition to clearing damaged vehicles, crews may also need to remove debris or address any hazards on the roadway. Once the scene is cleared and it is safe to reopen, traffic is allowed to resume its normal flow.
