Wesley Chapel, FL (March 15, 2026) – Eight people were seriously injured on Saturday evening after a golf cart overturned during a collision with a car in Wesley Chapel, according to authorities.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash shortly before 6:30 p.m. along Elam Road west of Calloway Ford Drive in Wesley Chapel, Florida.
According to investigators, a 43-year-old man from Wesley Chapel was driving a golf cart eastbound in a designated golf cart lane when he attempted to make a U-turn. Authorities said the maneuver placed the golf cart in the path of a Honda sedan following it.
The Honda, driven by a 17-year-old girl from Wesley Chapel, struck the golf cart. The impact caused the golf cart to overturn, ejecting all eight occupants from the vehicle.
Troopers reported that the injured individuals included the golf cart driver, his wife, their five children, and a 16-year-old neighbor. All eight occupants were transported to hospitals with serious injuries.
Following the collision, the Honda left the roadway and partially entered a nearby pond before coming to a stop. Authorities said the teenage driver of the Honda and a 17-year-old female passenger in the vehicle were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol, and officials have not indicated whether charges will be filed.
We hope for the full recovery of those injured in this accident.
Golf Cart Crashes Can Lead to Serious Injuries
Golf carts offer little protection for occupants compared to passenger vehicles, making crashes particularly dangerous.
Roadways such as Elam Road in areas like Wesley Chapel, Florida, sometimes include designated golf cart lanes or shared traffic spaces.
When collisions occur between golf carts and larger vehicles, the lack of restraints and structural protection can increase the risk of occupants being ejected and suffering serious injuries. Investigators typically examine vehicle movement, roadway layout, and driver actions to determine how the crash occurred.
