Winchester, TN (April 14, 2026) – A crash involving an ambulance and a semi truck left a medic seriously injured Tuesday morning at the intersection of Hwy 64 and SR-16 in Winchester.
The accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. as the ambulance was transporting a crash victim from a previous incident. According to initial reports, a tractor-trailer struck the ambulance, causing it to spin and roll over before coming to rest upside down in the median.
Emergency units arrived to find the overturned ambulance and began rescue efforts at the scene. A medic inside the ambulance suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a hospital in Nashville for treatment.
The patient, who was being transported at the time of the crash, was transferred to another emergency vehicle and taken to a hospital. Officials said the patient’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
How Crashes Involving Emergency Vehicles Can Become More Complex
Crashes involving ambulances can be especially complex because patients are often already receiving care during transport. When a collision occurs, both medical personnel and patients may face additional risk due to limited mobility inside the vehicle.
Large vehicles such as semi-trucks can exert significant force upon impact, increasing the likelihood of rollovers or severe damage. Intersections are common locations for these incidents due to crossing traffic patterns.
After such crashes, patients may need to be transferred quickly to another ambulance to continue care. Emergency crews must also manage both the crash scene and ongoing medical needs simultaneously.
