How Multi-Vehicle Crashes Often Occur at Busy Intersections
Multi-vehicle crashes frequently occur at intersections where traffic from several directions meets. Vehicles may accelerate, slow, or turn simultaneously, increasing the risk of a collision if timing or spacing is misjudged.
Traffic signals and turning movements can also create situations where drivers must make quick decisions. When several vehicles are close together, a single sudden stop or unexpected turn can lead to a chain reaction involving multiple cars.
Speed can also influence the severity of intersection crashes. Higher speeds reduce the time drivers have to react and increase the force of impact when vehicles collide.
Vehicle position and the angle of impact often determine how many cars become involved. When one vehicle is struck and pushed into another lane, additional vehicles may be involved in the crash.
