Why Truck Rollover Crashes Often Lead to Long Highway Closures
Crashes involving semi-trucks and other large commercial vehicles often require extended roadway closures because of vehicle size, cargo concerns, and cleanup needs. When a truck overturns, responders may need specialized equipment to safely remove the damaged vehicle.
Highways can remain partially closed for hours while crews clear debris, recover overturned trucks, and inspect roadway damage. Traffic backups may continue even after some lanes reopen due to reduced traffic flow.
Investigators commonly review vehicle weight, roadway conditions, and the sequence of impacts after rollover crashes involving trucks. Skid marks, vehicle positioning, and witness statements may also help determine how the collision occurred.
