How Single-Vehicle Crashes Near Waterways Can Become Deadly
Single-vehicle crashes involving creeks, ditches, or other waterways can quickly become dangerous due to rollover risks and difficult rescue conditions. Vehicles that overturn near water may also create additional hazards for occupants and emergency responders.
Roads near wooded or rural areas can include curves, uneven shoulders, and narrow lanes that increase the risk of a vehicle leaving the roadway. Wet surfaces or limited visibility may also contribute to loss-of-control crashes.
After these incidents, investigators often examine tire marks, vehicle damage, and roadway conditions to determine how the vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle’s position and the surrounding terrain can also help reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
