How Pedestrian Crashes Happen at Marked Crosswalks
Marked crosswalks are designed to give pedestrians a safer place to cross the street. However, crashes can still occur, especially during early morning hours when visibility may be lower.
Drivers traveling through intersections must watch for people entering the roadway, particularly at corners where multiple streets meet. Factors such as lighting conditions, vehicle speed, and driver attention can all affect reaction time.
When a pedestrian is struck by an SUV, the vehicle’s height and weight can increase the severity of injuries. Investigators often review roadway markings, traffic flow, and driver and pedestrian actions to better understand how the crash occurred.
