Tracy, CA (January 4, 2026) – A deadly rollover crash took the life of a passenger and led to the arrest of a driver on suspicion of DUI just outside Tracy. The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. along westbound State Route 4, just west of the Middle River Bridge.
According to the California Highway Patrol, witnesses reported that a westbound Nissan was being driven recklessly, nearly colliding head-on with several vehicles in the eastbound lanes before the driver lost control. The vehicle veered off the south side of the roadway and overturned, eventually coming to rest upside-down in a body of water.
Bystanders rushed to the scene and helped pull both the driver and passenger from the submerged vehicle. Emergency responders provided medical attention, and both individuals were transported from the scene. Sadly, the passenger was later pronounced dead at San Joaquin County General Hospital.
Authorities took the driver into custody at the hospital and subsequently booked them into the county jail on suspicion of driving under the influence. No further identifying details about the individuals involved have been released at this time.
The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
