Head-On Collision Safety and Awareness
Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of roadway collisions due to the combined force of impact between vehicles traveling in opposite directions. These crashes often result in catastrophic injuries or fatalities, even on rural roads with lighter traffic volumes.
Crossing the center line can happen for several reasons, including distraction, speeding, fatigue, or impairment. Drivers are encouraged to remain attentive behind the wheel, avoid distractions, and reduce speed on narrow or winding roadways.
Emergency officials also remind motorists to use extra caution during evening travel hours when visibility may become reduced. Virginia State Police continue to investigate the fatal Amherst County collision.
