Why High-Speed Crashes Often Lead to Severe Injuries
Crashes at high speeds often result in severe outcomes because the force of impact increases significantly with speed. When a vehicle leaves the roadway at high speed, it may strike fixed objects such as trees, fences, or utility poles.
These impacts can cause extensive vehicle damage and place occupants at high risk of injury. Young passengers may be particularly vulnerable when several people are riding in the same vehicle during a crash.
Loss of control, sudden steering movements, and roadway conditions can all influence how a vehicle leaves the road. When a vehicle collides with stationary objects, the impact is often concentrated in a small area, which can increase the severity of injuries for those inside.
