Bridgeville, DE (April 12, 2026) – One man was killed, and another was injured in an agricultural accident on Friday afternoon at a farm on Redden Road in Bridgeville.
The incident happened around 4:50 p.m. on April 10, at a property identified as Evans Farms. Emergency units responded to reports of two men trapped inside a grain tank and confirmed both were stuck upon arrival, prompting additional rescue support.
According to early findings, the two men had entered the tank to loosen a clogged auger filled with corn. While inside, corn from a higher level shifted and trapped them. After an extended rescue effort, a 20-year-old man was removed and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A 66-year-old man was later located inside the tank and pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the incident, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
How Grain Bin Accidents Can Become Dangerous
Grain storage tanks can present serious risks, especially when workers enter them during equipment issues. Grain can behave like a fluid, shifting quickly and trapping a person within seconds.
When material such as corn piles unevenly or becomes clogged, it may suddenly collapse and cover anyone inside. This can make movement nearly impossible and limit airflow, creating a life-threatening situation.
Rescue efforts are often complex and require specialized equipment. Crews must carefully remove grain while trying to reach those trapped without causing further collapse. These conditions can make rescues take longer, especially when access is limited.
