What Are the Most Common Risks for Young Motorcyclists on Texas Roads?
Motorcyclists between the ages of 16 and 25 face some of the highest crash rates of any group on Texas roadways. Younger riders often have less experience reading road conditions, judging distances, and reacting to other drivers, which increases their exposure to serious accidents. Late-night riding adds another layer of risk, as visibility drops and the likelihood of encountering fatigued or inattentive drivers goes up.
In Texas, motorcycle riders are required to complete safety training and hold a valid motorcycle license, but even licensed riders can find highway driving demanding. Two-vehicle crashes involving a motorcycle and a car are especially dangerous for the rider, given the lack of structural protection a motorcycle provides. Speed, lighting, and other drivers’ behavior are among the factors most commonly reviewed in these cases.
