What Factors Make Pedestrian Crashes Common in California’s Suburban Areas?
Pedestrian crashes in California’s suburban communities often occur at intersections and along corridors where foot traffic and vehicle speeds mix without adequate safety infrastructure. Areas with limited crosswalk markings, poor lighting, or high posted speed limits tend to see more of these incidents. Florin and similar unincorporated communities near Sacramento can have stretches of road that feel more rural than residential, making pedestrian visibility a consistent concern.
In California, pedestrian fatalities have remained among the highest in the nation over recent years. Drivers are required by law to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, but crashes still occur frequently outside of marked crossing areas. Time of day and lighting conditions are often reviewed when determining how a pedestrian came to be struck on a given roadway.
