Why Rollover Crashes Can Cause Serious Injuries
Rollover crashes can be dangerous because the vehicle may strike the ground multiple times. Each impact can move occupants in different directions. This can raise the risk of head, neck, chest, and back injuries.
Seat belt use can affect the severity of injuries in a rollover. A seat belt helps keep a person in the seat during sudden movement. Without one, a person may hit the interior of the vehicle or be partly or fully thrown from it.
Curves can also add risk, especially at night. A driver may have less time to react if speed, road shape, or limited visibility affects control. Rollover crashes often require careful medical checks because some injuries may not be visible right away.
